KUNC: What are the origins of Valley Bank & Trust?
VB&T: In September 1971, James J. O'Dell opened Platte Valley Bank in Brighton, Colorado. Over the years, as the bank grew, many products and services were added, including a full service Trust Department. Thus, in 1997, the name of all branches was changed to Valley Bank & Trust.
KUNC: Is the O’Dell family still involved? VB&T: Yes, Mr. O’Dell Chairman of the Board for the bank, as well as for Valley Bancorp, Inc., the bank's holding company. His daughter, Donna J. O'Dell Petrocco continues the family tradition.
KUNC: What is Donna’s involvement in Valley Bank & Trust?
VB&T: In 1975, she began part-time as a team member working in various areas of the bank until 1983. She returned in 1995 as a member of the Board of Directors and is now the President and CEO.
KUNC: In what towns can you find Valley Bank & Trust?
VB&T: We have a total of thirteen locations. There are three locations in Brighton, including our corporate headquarters near I-76 on Bromley Lane. We are also in Commerce City, Dacono, North Denver, Fredrick, Hudson, Keenesburg, Louisville, Lyons, Strasburg and Westminster.
KUNC: As a locally owned and managed financial institution, I imagine service to the community is extremely important. VB&T: Yes, and Valley Bank & Trust has been recognized for outstanding service to local communities by the Independent Bankers of Colorado and received their coveted Crown Service Award in 1998. In addition, the bank was awarded Business of the Year in Louisville and Frederick by the local Chambers of Commerce.
KUNC: What services helped Valley Bank & Trust earn these awards?
VB&T: The Independent Bankers of Colorado recognized that Valley Bank & Trust creates products and services designed to benefit customers, funds scholarship programs for area youth, is committed to fraud prevention programs, investing in continuing adult education and recreation for area senior citizens, and for the interest in assisting small businesses become established success stories.
How else is Valley Bank & Trust involved in the local communities?
VB&T: One of the ways we stay involved is by sponsoring events in our various communities. On August 30ths we’re sponsoring a MDA Pancake Breakfast in Hudson. On September 12th we sponsor the Spaghetti Sauce Cook Off in Denver and later that month we’ll be at Broomfield Days and the Carbon Valley Bike, Ride & Miners Day Celebration in Frederick.
