Ryan Thompson

Operations Manager

I joined the team at KUNC in 2008, and have since worked in several roles. Starting as an Administrative Assistant before moving into fundraising, programming, and now operations has given me a huge appreciation for the multi-faceted roles that many public radio employees play. It's also given me the chance get to know many of KUNC's most dedicated listeners and members!

I love all the programs on KUNC, but have a soft spot for This American Life and The Dinner Party Download. I live in Fort Collins, and love to get out and explore the beautiful Front Range whenever I can.

The Haven provides a safe and empowering environment where women can recover from addictions and co-occurring disorders to help them become self-sufficient, confident members of the community. “It is the only program in the state that accepts community corrections clients that are pregnant or have an infant child,” says Bill Winn, Founding President of Friends of the Haven.

A national organization is brought local in Eagle County, Colorado. SOS Outreach services 5,000 kids between the ages of 8 and 18. They use outdoor sports and activities to hook children into a long-term mentoring program that fosters leadership development.

SOS Outreach instills six core values in their youth: courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, and humanity. For every sports activity the kids participate in, they also participate in a service learning activity to better themselves and their community.

"We create smiles. We renew spirits. We ignite hope."

This is the motto of the Shining Stars Foundation, who works to provide social and recreational programs to children and families faced with pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Shining Stars is unique because they aren't providing medical treatment, but organized activities that help get at the underlying issues of illness and helps the child live a happier more fulfilling life.

Just outside of Keensburg, Colorado, over 400 lions, tigers, bears, wolves, and other large exotic animals roam on 720 acres of land. An unobtrusive walkway, mostly 30 feet tall, allows guests to safely observe the animals. These elevated paths are the first indication that this is no zoo.

The true purpose of The Wild Animal Sanctuary is to provide an environment for rescued animals to rest and be rehabilitated by staff and volunteers. For most of them it is a chance to peacefully live the remainder of their lives surrounded by people dedicated to their health and comfort.
