4th Annual Festival Chicana/o de Artes serves up Cultura, Humor, and Music

The 4th Annual Festival Chicana/o de Artes gets underway is this Wednesday at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.The event features special guest artist, Ruby Nelda Perez and her performance of “Rosita’s Jalapeño Kitchen.”

Many Mexican Americans struggle to balance their integration into American culture while maintaining their heritage and feeling of self identity.  Chicana actress Rudy Nelda Perez has been focusing on that fine line for over 30 years. Her one woman play, “Rosita’s Jalapeno Kitchen” explores Chicano culture, as well as the everyday realities facing Mexican Americans.

She'll be performing at the 4th annual Chicana/o De Artes Festival at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. KUNC’s Nathan Heffel Spoke to Perez about her play and Chicano culture

Perez says the show combines cultura, humor, and social commentary served in Rosita’s restaurant kitchen. Ruby NeldaPerez is an actress based in San Antonio, Texas. She has been working in theaterfor more then 30 years.

The festival is Wednesday (3/28) from 5:00pm – 8:30pm at the University Center Ballrooms at 2045 10th Avenue, Greeley, CO, on the University of Northern Colorado campus and will include a buffet dinner and performances/exhibits by local artists.
