Aloe Blacc On World Cafe

Born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins, Aloe Blacc is a first-generation American of Panamanian descent who combines soul with hip-hop, salsa, jazz, R&B, and tropicalia.

Blacc originally recorded hip-hop as a member of the 90s hip-hop outfit Emanon before releasing a solo album titled Shine Through in 2006. He recently released his second album, Good Things, that focuses on 60s and 70s soul and funk music. You might already know Blacc's music. The lead track from Good Things, "I Need a Dollar", is used in the opening credits for HBO's How to Make It In America.

Hear Blacc play the aforementioned song and chat with World Cafe host David Dye about the transition from MC to soul crooner as well as Good Things. Copyright 2011 WXPN-FM. To see more, visit http://www.xpn.org/.
