Are You More Mariachi Or Punk Rock? This Weekend You Can Be Both

Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau
Both Denver and Greeley Cinco de Mayo celebrations will feature chihuahua races.

Colorado’s Cinco de Mayo celebrations run the gamut from traditional mariachi music and dancing to chihuahua racing.

Looking for something a little tamer? How about a punk-rock swap meet? Or maybe a concert by one of the originators of indie-rock?

Communities throughout Colorado will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with lots of music, dancing, art and food. In Fort Collins, you can catch a variety of musical acts including Mariachi Vasquez, a family act that presents a modern update on traditional mariachi music. Denver’s celebration includes a Saturday parade through Downtown and a mariachi mass, Sunday, May 8. In Greeley, they’ve got chihuahua races and a jalapeno eating contest.

Northern Colorado Cinco de Mayo Festival, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 7 and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 8, 2016, Old Town Square, Fort Collins. Free.

The Punk Rock Flea Market will feature 120 vendors where folks can buy, sell, or trade anything from vinyl to music equipment to vintage clothes - all with a punk-rock theme. What punk rock swap meet would be complete without music? There will be a special all-ages after-party at Seventh Circle Music Collective featuring Texas band Starving Wolves.

Punk Rock Flea Market, 12 to 5 p.m. May 7, 2016, Glitter Dome Event Center, Denver. $5.

Speaking of punk… Whether you’re more a fan of Hüsker Dü or Sugar or his solo work, you’ll want to catch Bob Mould. The godfather of indie-rock is back on tour with the Bob Mould Band and on his latest album, Patch the Sky, we think he sounds better than ever.

Bob Mould, 8 p.m. May 7, 2016, Boulder Theatre. $20-25.
