The Blues Tonight...

King Alex & The Untouchables
/
Black Magic

Coming up tonight on The Nine O’clock Blues... I’ll be playing a wide variety of artists including King Alex and the Untouchables, who Solomon Burke called ‘the best band I ever worked with’. Also on the show, appropriately, will be the late Solomon Burke.

My favorite Burke story is the time he and B. B. King had to climb out of the men’s room window of a night club to escape from a bar fight. Solomon pointed out that’s was a long time and a lot of pounds ago. Another of tonight’s artists is Long John Hunter, known as The Border Town Legend because of the days when he would play from sundown to sunup at a Mexican bar just south of the Texas border. If that isn’t enough true blues for you, how about Howlin’ Wolf?
