Sunday marks the Denver Broncos' first game of the season. Those wanting to avoid the hassle of traffic and parking will now be able to utilize a bike valet at Denver’s Sports Authority Field at Mile High for all home games.
The new service, sponsored by the Broncos and Denver B-cycle, will provide a secure area for cyclists to leave their bikes and other personal items like helmets and backpacks during the game. Volunteers will be on-hand to monitor the area, although bike locks are still encouraged.
In the past, B-cycle riders had to leave their bikes about a mile from the stadium at the nearest stations on 4th & Walnut and 23rd & Clay. Riders with their own personal bikes had to park around the periphery of the stadium.
Andy Gorchov, general manager of Stadium Management Company, said on the team’s blog that the goal is to reduce traffic congestion before and after games.
"By improving on-site services available to cyclists at the stadium, our hope is that more fans will consider leaving their cars at home and instead bike to the game,” Gorchov said.
The bike valet will work similar to a car valet at other establishments. Cyclists will receive a numbered ticket stub to retrieve their bike after the game. While the service is free, donations will be accepted and used to fund the non-profit organization Denver Bike Sharing, which operates Denver’s B-cycle program.
Cyclists will be able to ride right up to the stadium and the area has a capacity for 500 bikes. The valet is located next to parking lot J by Gate four and will be open three hours prior to kickoff and one hour after the game ends.
