Apple Considers Bid For Internet TV Service Hulu

MARY LOUISE KELLY, host:

NPR's business news starts with Apple eyeing Hulu.

(Soundbite of music)

KELLY: The maker of iPads and iPhones, iPods, i-everything, is considering a bid for the Internet TV service Hulu. The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News are both reporting that, although they acknowledge it's still speculative at this stage. Buying Hulu would give Apple lots of video content to put on iTunes, allowing it to compete better with Netflix and with Amazon, which this week announced a deal with CBS to put TV shows on its own video streaming service.
