Anti-Government Protests Roil Egypt

In Cairo, Protesters Celebrate 'Greatest Day'

Egyptians experienced a reversal of events in the past 24 hours. Thursday night, President Hosni Mubarak said he would not give up power. Friday morning, he did just that. Eighteen days of protests centered around Tahrir Square. After Friday's announcement, the crowd erupted into celebration. Nobel Peace laureate and opposition figure Mohamed ElBaradei called it the "greatest day of his life."
