Colorado Hospitals rated as ‘Top Performers’ in Annual Survey

Creative Commons

Five Colorado hospitals are listed as top performers in an annual report compiled by the Joint Commission, which inspects and accredits hospitals across the U.S.

The group’s director – Dr. Mark Chassin – says 405 hospitals made the list after being rated on 22 accountability measures in 2010.

“This list of top performers provides information about performance related to heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma care and lists the comparative information in one place.”

Which Chassin says is important – because these are among the most common conditions that patients are hospitalized for. In Colorado Platte Valley Medical Center Brighton, Rose Medical Center Denver, Swedish Medical Center Englewood, Avista Adventist Hospital Louisville and North Suburban Medical Center Thornton were singled out in the report.

Just because a hospital didn’t show up in the list doesn’t mean it’s doing poorly Chassin says, it simply means there is still room for improvement.
