Colorado Senator Wants Foundation for Veterans

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet is calling on Congress to establish a national philanthropic foundation for US military veterans similar to a charity program already in place for national parks.  The Democrat introduced legislation in Congress Thursday. He said his bill establishing a National Veterans Foundation would better coordinate public and private resources, especially as massive amounts of American troops are set to withdrawal from Iraq by year’s end.

"The idea really came from the vets themselves who were saying that we know better than anyone else that there are plenty of people who want to help the vets, but we’re not very well coordinated," Bennet said.

The proposal is one of several policy recommendations stemming from a report Bennet commissioned from Colorado veterans groups.  It was released earlier this week.
