Colorado Unemployment Rate Down, Despite Loss of Jobs

Unemployment rates fell in 25 states last month, including in Colorado. That’s despite a slight decline in the number of nonfarm payroll jobs in the state.

According to the most recent survey of businesses, Colorado lost 3,900 jobs last month. That figure is a result of 5,000 private sector jobs being lost at the same time the government added 1100.

Among the industries hardest hit were hospitality, business and professional services, and manufacturing. The most jobs were added in the financial services industry.

Despite the overall decline in jobs, Colorado’s unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a percent last month to 8.3% – its lowest level in more than two years.

Nationwide, employers added 103,000 net jobs in September. But that wasn’t enough to budge the unemployment rate from 9.1%, where it’s been for three straight months.
