Columbus Day Closures

Many state offices are closed today in observance of Columbus Day—including state driver’s license offices. But there is still a way for many Colorado drivers to handle routine renewal requests. Those who have clean driving records and no health issues can renew their licenses onlinethrough the Colorado Department of Revenue. The web site doesn’t handle applications from drivers who are reinstating their licenses after traffic infractions.

“It’s simple and easy to use, and it’s a great way to avoid the lines if you’re going on any other day [than Columbus Day]. But on a day when we’re closed it’s still open for business,” said Mark Couch, a spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.

Other state offices closed today include the Department of Public Health and Environment’s vital records office and Division of Wildlife Service Centers. Columbus Day is also a U.S. Postal Service holiday. But state troopers will still be patrolling the highways and Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be working as necessary.
