From The Desk Of Neil Best: More Partnerships And Service

2014 promises to continue KUNC’s commitment to working with public media partners to provide more comprehensive coverage of issues that are of concern to you.

As we begin the new legislative session, we’ll continue to bring you year-round coverage of Colorado’s state government, thanks to our partnership with 15 other public stations in Colorado.

Last February, we joined the Harvest Public Media network and Luke Runyon joined the KUNC staff. The result has been the sharing of a wealth of reporting from Luke and colleagues at 11 other public stations in the Midwest covering the critical issues of food, fuel, and field that affect all of us.

KUNC and Rocky Mountain PBS formed another partnership to cover the arts in Colorado. Joining our staff in April was Carrie Saldo, who provides on-going coverage for KUNC during Morning Edition and also hosts Arts District on RMPBS each week.

Now KUNC will be partnering with six other public radio and television stations to create a national hub for energy reporting. Inside Energy will be a collaborative effort by KUNC, RMPBS, Colorado Public Television, Wyoming Public Television, Wyoming Public Media, and Prairie Public Broadcasting (public radio and television for North Dakota). Inside Energy will provide coverage of energy that moves beyond polarized arguments and emotional debate to explore the points of tension, the trade-offs and opportunities, and the very human consequences of energy policy, production, use and innovation.

While originating with a focus on the energy boom states of Colorado, North Dakota and Wyoming, the reporting will explore issues of national interest and importance.

These states represent the gamut of energy production and research. They produce or extract oil, gas, coal, wind, solar, geothermal, and biofuels. They are home to centers of research, such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Institute for Energy Research. And they contain examples of emerging, boom, and mature energy ecosystems.

Our focus continues on developing partnerships that allow KUNC to create reporting that enriches our service to you.

Warm Regards,

President & CEO
