As they write over at the conservative Hot Air website, when a diverse set of bloggers are saying something's a "must-see," it's worth noting.
That's the case with the commencement address that talk show host Conan O'Brien gave last weekend at Dartmouth College. Hot Air says O'Brien just may have given the "greatest commencement speech ever." An analysis that's a bit over-the-top, perhaps, but judge for yourself.
The full, 24-minute-long, video is posted here. Dartmouth has also posted a 4-minute-long video of the highlights, which seems to hit the high points that have gotten Conan some welcome attention. We'll add it to this post.
Elizabeth Scalia, who blogs as The Anchoress, writes:
"O'Brien gets serious and personal, and the speech goes from enjoyable to sublime. Discussing his professional journey and its disappointments, he says: 'There are few things more liberating in this life than having your worst fear realized.'
"You can tell he means it; between quips, he speaks passionately and with conviction and with the sort of reassurance that is born of experience and loss."
Here's O'Brien, who so famously lost what had been his dream job as host of The Tonight Show, on dealing with disappointment:
"Whether you fear it or not, disappointment will come. The beauty is that through disappointment you can gain clarity; and with clarity comes conviction and true originality."
