On the heels of a plea to the Federal Emergency Management Agency by the city of Evans for funds to clean up two flood damaged mobile home parks; a statement from the agency outlines millions of dollars in past assistance to the city, but does not pledge additional funds.
In a statement released Thursday, FEMA says Federal Coordinating Officer Tom McCool has written Evans City Manager Aden Hogen saying in part:
“I regret I do not have the authority to support all of Evans’ needs, but that does not mean every member of the FEMA team here in Colorado is not fully invested in bringing every resource the Stafford Act authorizes to bear in support of Evans.”
As we've previously reported, the city of Evans has sounded the alarm over the hazardous conditions at Bella Vista and Eastwood Village mobile home parks. The city does not have the resources to clean up the site.
FEMA's statement then provides an inventory of flood assistance provided to Evans to date. $6.6 million has been spent on Individual Assistance to city residents with another $3.6 million in low-interest loans from the Small Business Administration helping 46 homeowners and nine business owners. The agency adds its also provided more than $1.4 million to the city for Public Assistance.
