GlobalFEST 2011 Home Edition: 13 Bands In 13 Minutes

When it comes to live music, I like to graze. When I go to a festival, I like to get the flavor of as many bands as I physically can. It's the musical equivalent of a tasting: I'm on the lookout for something surprising, intriguing and striking. So when I went to globalFEST 2011, I saw at least part of all 13 acts on all three stages.

Now, you can, too. I made a point to take one-minute videos of everything I saw, so you can "graze" the entire festival in less than 13 minutes.

I put my favorite music videos first. Next week, we'll have full audio from all 13 concerts at globalFEST 2011 online for you to hear. We'll also recap the festival on All Songs Considered with world-music lovers Banning Eyre of Afropop Worldwide and Rob Weisberg of WFMU's Transpacific Sound Paradise. To top it all off, we'll have tons of amazing photographs, too. Our past globalFEST coverage is also online.

So go on and graze. Tell us what made you say "wow" and stay tuned. Concerts will be posted online on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

In 1988, a determined Bob Boilen started showing up on NPR's doorstep every day, looking for a way to contribute his skills in music and broadcasting to the network. His persistence paid off, and within a few weeks he was hired, on a temporary basis, to work for All Things Considered. Less than a year later, Boilen was directing the show and continued to do so for the next 18 years.
