"A federal judge in Florida says the Obama administration's historic health overhaul is unconstitutional, siding with 26 states that had sued to block it," the Associated Press writes.
In his much-anticipated ruling, Judge Roger Vinson went further than a federal judge in Virginia who ruled that it is unconstitutional to require people to buy health insurance. Vinson, AP reports, "declared the entire health care law unconstitutional."
"This is obviously a very difficult task. Regardless of how laudable its attempts may have been to accomplish these goals in passing the Act, Congress must operate within the bounds established by the Constitution,'' Vinson wrote in his 78-page ruling.
And the requirement from insurance can't be separated from the rest of the law, Vinson added. Therefore, he ruled, the whole overhaul is unconstitutional.
Next likely stop for this issue: The U.S. Supreme Court.
