Huntsman Shows Off Mandarin Skills

MELISSA BLOCK, HOST:

Now barely registering in that same poll, not quite at 2 percent, are three other candidates: Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman. Huntsman did win some points last night for fluency during his appearance on "The Colbert Report." We're going to be bringing you choice moments from the campaign, and here's one of them. Host Stephen Colbert, who, in character, told Huntsman he is terrified of Chinese people, asked the candidate, who was the Obama administration's ambassador to China, to demonstrate his language skills.

: What did you just say? What did you just say?

: I just said, I think that you ought to consider being my running mate for vice president.

BLOCK: Needless to say, Stephen Colbert did not accept, but that is a presidential ticket we'd love to see. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
