The Two-Way
Joplin Tornado: The View From Space
By Mark Memmott
The heart-breaking photos are those being taken on the ground today, of course, and there is a gallery of shots on the NPR.org homefront of the devastation in Joplin, Mo., where a tornado ripped through on Sunday — killing, it's feared, more than 100 people.
The view from hundreds of miles up in space is also awe-inspiring for how it shows the size of the storm. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has posted them online, and they're available for downloading. Copyright 2011 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.
