The man who shot and killed three people at a Thornton Walmart last year has been sentenced to three life terms in prison without parole, plus an additional 48 years for firing bullets into the Walmart.
Scott Ostrem pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree murder earlier this month in order to avoid the possibility of receiving the death penalty.
Last November, Ostrem walked out of his job at a sheet metal company. According to police, he went to a local shooting range. Then, later that day, Ostrem walked into a Walmart , located at 9901 Grant Street in Thornton, and opened fire using a handgun. He killed Victor Vasquez, Pamela Marques and Carlos Moreno.
No clear motive emerged in the months following the incident. In the spring, Ostrem underwent an evaluation at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo. Based on that evaluation, a judge ruled that he was competent to stand trial.
