The KUNC Newsroom was recognized with three Major Market awards for 2012 by the Colorado Broadcasters Association at their annual Awards of Excellence Banquet Saturday night.
Reporter Nathan Heffel received a first place award in the Best News Feature, Report or Series category for his coverage of the El Sistema music programat Garden Place Elementary School in northwest Denver. El Sistema is Spanish for “the system.” The innovative music program is based on a model created in Venezuela in 1979 that’s quickly migrating across the U.S.
Reporter Grace Hood won a second place award in the same category for her story on a Greeley company that puts the scary into Halloween.
KUNC also received a first place award for Best Station Website.
Entries were judged by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. The annual awards are designed to honor individual and station excellence within the Colorado Broadcast industry.
