Public Radio News Directors Incorporated has recognized KUNC with three awards for excellence in public radio reporting for 2012.

PRNDI is the only national contest honoring outstanding news reporting at local public radio stations.

Morning Edition host Erin O’Toole received a first place award in the Interview category about a film chronicling Colorado’s role in the relocation of Indians to urban areas between 1952 and 1973.

Reporter Grace Hood won a first place award in the Enterprise/Investigative category for her reporting on how a for-profit company was managing a taxpayer-funded online school.

Reporter Nathan Heffel received a second place award in the Best Use of Sound category for his story on how political campaigns were taking their messages online.

The KUNC news department has also been recognized this year with three awards from the Colorado Broadcasters Association, five regional Edward R. Murrow awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association and 11 awards from the Colorado Associated Press.
