Larimer County Approves Economic Development Funding

Larimer County Commissioners have approved $59,000 for 4 economic development programs for small business growth. While two of the three commissioners approved of the  programs, one commissioner was against the effort.

The four programs are expected to help develop local entrepreneurs and new businesses within the county. Commissioners Lew Gaiter and Tom Donnelly backed all of the proposals – including a position at the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation to help rural communities develop economically.

But while all for economic development, Commissioner Steve Johnson believes this is not the way to do it.

“I think these are nice sounding ideas. But I think they were very poorly developed, and I think the chances of them creating real jobs or economic opportunity in Larimer County, I just didn’t see it.”

Johnson did support a workforce summit scheduled in Loveland later this month– saying it was a valid use of county funds.
