'Bench Mates' Contribute To U.K. Beauty

MARY LOUISE KELLY, host:

Our last word in business today is bench mates.

It's a new project in the U.K. to help people better appreciate their country's natural beauty. British conservation officials have recorded celebrities waxing nostalgic about special sites. They've attached to these musings to benches around the country. At Cragside, a historic home and garden near Newcastle, visitors can sit down, strap on headphones and listen to comedian Miranda Hart.

Ms. MIRANDA HART (Comedian): Did you know that this is where Lord Armstrong resided? He was a Victorian inventor and innovator and it is the first house in the world, yes, an exclusive here, to be lit by hydroelectricity.

KELLY: Notable Brits can be heard on eight benches around England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

And that's the business news today on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Mary Louise Kelly.
