Facebook Solves IT Issues With Vending Machine

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

And our last word in business: do-it-yourself IT.

Dealing with IT departments can be frustrating. At some point, everyone has needed a new cable or gadget to get a computer working again and waited days before it arrived. Well, Facebook has a workaround. Fortune magazine reports that when Facebook employees need new tech equipment, they can just walk over to a vending machine, swipe their badges and press a button, or thump the machine.

Either way, out comes a keyboard or other digital accessory from the custom-made vending machine. The items are free, but they do have price tags, so employees can see how much it cost the company every time they spill coffee on their keyboard.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Renee Montagne. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
