Japanese Workers Find Ways To Beat The Heat

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

And in Japan, workers are looking for ways to beat the heat without turning on the air conditioning. The country is still battling power shortages due to the shutdown of nuclear power plants.

So our last word in business today is fashion cool.

Japanese stores are stocking up on products like cold facial sheets, ice masks and cold pillows you take to work and rest your sweaty neck on. There's even an icy foam you spray onto your body. Then it hardens into a cold pack around your wrist, for example - a cold foam bracelet.

Although you will know this went too far as soon as somebody shows up at work wearing cold foam instead of clothes.

That's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
