Listeners Tell Us What They Did During The Blizzard

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

People across America have been sharing their stories of being housebound in this week's big winter storm.

Roxanne Stone of Denver used the time to give herself a manicure.

Ms. ROXANNE STONE: So I opened the door and, sure enough, I stuck my hands in and moved them around and it literally froze my nail polish. So I got a very quick manicure.

INSKEEP: In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sandi Shelby says some things never change.

Ms. SANDI SHELBY: You know, we boast about our sunshine here in Albuquerque, and it's just as sunny as can be.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. SHELBY: It's 11 degrees. Wind chill factor is negative 10, and we still have to wear sunscreen.

INSKEEP: And Susan Owen lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where the local newspaper reported temperatures reaching down to negative 40 yesterday.

Ms. SUSAN OWEN: I went to let our dog, Willy, outside. And he went out on the deck, kind of looked around, looks back at me and said I am not leaving this deck, and proceeded to turn the deck into a literal poop deck.

INSKEEP: The dog, Willy, makes a statement on behalf of everyone who's tired of winter. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
