Mass. Man Savors Court Victory Over Parking Ticket

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep with congratulations to Michael D. Rivers. The Massachusetts man parked at a meter in Springfield in 2009. He got a $25 parking ticket. Mr. Rivers said he put 50 cents in the meter, which was broken. He chose to fight in court, representing himself. Two years and hundreds of dollars in filing fees later, a judge threw out the $25 fine. Even the head of the parking authority admits Mr. Rivers' defense was eloquent.
