More Favorite Music of 2011

The Rifters
/
Howlin' Dog Records

Among my favorite ten picks for this year are releases by The Rifters and Madeleine Peyroux, so let's see them in performance here....

The Great River by the New Mexican band, The Rifters, gives a geographical nod to the mighty Colorado River in their liner notes; its noble route winding through several states and landscapes. Two songs especially capture this feeling, "Passin' Through" and "He's A Drifter My Friend." Their harmonies are uplifting, the lyrics are thoughtful, and there's a some fine pickin' in those musical textures!

Madeleine Peyroux also rolls along with enjoyable releases, including Standing On the Rooftop, and the title song is one of my favorites. She sings some she's created but many are lovely re-workings of songs from the minds of Bob Dylan, Lennon/McCartney and others. Enjoyable music for a gathering at home or a drive through mountains!
