No Tiger Woods At The U.S. Open

Since he withdrew from The Players Championship on May 12 after playing just nine holes, this news won't be a huge surprise to golf fans:

"Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will miss the 2011 U.S. Open." ( TigerWoods.com)

"I was hopeful that I could play, but if I did, I risk further damage to my left leg," Woods adds in that statement. "My knee and Achilles tendon are not fully healed."

The tournament, being held this year at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., begins June 16 (though related events begin even sooner — next Monday).
