The post office in Carr, Colorado, has been targeted for closure.

The Northern Colorado town of Carr will be hosting U.S. Postal officials tonight for a public forum. At issue is the proposed closure of the unincorporated rural town’s post office.

It’s one of about 70 Colorado closures under consideration by the U.S. Postal Service, which lost $8 billion dollars last year. Dave Long, a Weld County Commissioner, says he’s concerned about how the changes would impact business.

“Governments are making it harder and harder for rural America to exist. I think closing post offices in rural America are part of that,” he says. “It’s going on all across the country.”

The 70 Colorado locations are part of a larger list of 3,700 locations nationwide.

Postal officials say that some locations could be consolidated, or changed into so-called Village Post offices, in which services are offered in local stores or other government agencies.
