What would you do if you could no longer drive? Most of us will have to answer that question at some point. What will you do? Ride a bus? Call a cab? Beg family and friends for rides? Stay home? Or give up that home and move in with the kids or to an assisted living facility? SAINT offers an alternative.
Senior Alternatives in Transportation (SAINT) is a local non-profit agency providing personal transportation in Fort Collins and Loveland to people 60 years old and older, and people with disabilities that prevent them from driving. .
SAINT operates through the efforts of volunteers who donate their time and the use of their vehicles to help make a difference in the lives of those who cannot drive. SAINT volunteers have been helping their neighbors in Fort Collins and Loveland get to the doctor’s office, the grocery store, the Senior Center and where ever else they need to go since 1983. Because of the efforts of our volunteers, seniors and disabled people who are unable to drive, are able to live independently.
SAINT operates from 8:15 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, within the city limits of Fort Collins and Loveland, with rides to any destination for any purpose. Many rides are to medical providers, but SAINT also takes clients to places of employment of volunteer service, the hairdresser, or simply to have lunch with friends.
There is no charge for SAINT's services, but donations are appreciated. Riders must call to make reservations at least three business days in advance of the requested date.
To volunteer as a SAINT driver, all you need is a car, a driver's license with a clean driving record and a desire to help your neighbors. Volunteer opportunity is flexible - drive a regular schedule or drive occasionally as a back-up. SAINT does the scheduling, carries supplemental insurance, and reimburses for mileage.
