Shanghai To Institute One Pooch Policy

Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.

China's one-child policy is a well-known measure to keep their human population in check. Now there's a move to limit the size of another population. In May, the city of Shanghai will institute a limit of one dog per household. City leaders say there are now more than 800,000 dogs in Shanghai, and that pet population is exploding. The one pooch policy will help combat, among other things, rampant barking and unscooped poop.
