Screencap from Chris Daniels' performance at Twist & Shout

It has taken 30 years for Chris Daniels to release his first solo record and the wait is worth it. He played live at Denver record institution Twist & Shout on August 7th.

Album title track - "Better Days"

After recording for the past 26 years and 12 albums with the Kings, Chris Daniels decided the time had come to put out an album on his own.

Better Days gets a lot of help from many of the artists Daniels has befriended over the years: Hazel Miller, Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield), Sam Bush, and John Magnie (The Subdudes) to mention a few.

The title refers to Daniels’ bout with leukemia and his struggle with the disease. Daniels health appears stronger these days. He has been playing a slew of dates around Colorado and is taking every opportunity to showcase the new material.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t take another 30 years to release his second solo album. As a bonus, we're tossing in our favorite from his new album, a sly, but not terribly subtle nod to Colorado's current favorite 'medicinal' industry.

"Medical Marijuana"

I’m not a Colorado native (did you know that "I'm from Missouri" means "I'm skeptical of the matter and not easily convinced?") but I have lived here for most of my life and couldn't imagine leaving. After graduating from Colorado State University, I did what everyone wants to do; I moved to the mountains and skied, hiked, and hid from responsibility! Our listeners in the mountains may know me from my time in Steamboat Springs and Vail or as the voice of the Battle Mountain Huskies Hockey team in Vail.
