VIDEOS: Lightning Strikes Jumbo Jets

There's been a fair amount of attention today given to a story and video posted by theDaily Mail because it shows an Emirates Airbus A380, with 500 or so people aboard, being struck by lightning as it landed at London's Heathrow Airport last month.

It is pretty compelling.

No one was hurt. And as the Daily Mailexplains, passenger jets are designed to handle such strikes.

Seeing the video inspired us to look around for other such clips. If you do a search on "plane + lightning" on YouTube, the one that comes up with the most views (1.3 million and counting) is indeed rather dramatic. It shows lightning hitting a Quantas flight over Sydney in 2004.

If you've seen better, let us know in the comments thread.

Update at 3:30 p.m. ET: It didn't involve planes, but there was some amazing lightning-related video recorded Tuesday night in Fort Worth. Go here to see it.
