Voters from across Colorado weighed in on a range of municipal issues from medical marijuana to ranked voting on Tuesday. In Fort Collins, a large majority of voters decided against adopting a rank voting system, also known as “instant runoff voting.” That’s where voters choose candidates by ranking them in order of their preference.
The process could have eliminated the need for multiple elections. Proponents argued that the system could have saved the city time and money. But opponents said that the system could be unfair and confusing.
Voters in Grand Junction approved banning medical marijuana centers. They also said yes to a $65 million dollar debt question for downtown improvements.
The Colorado Municipal League says at least 14 cities and towns will have elections in the coming months and most of them will be conducted through mail.
