It’s been three weeks since the election of 2012. At the state capitol this week the latest crop of lawmakers will participate in the first of two freshman orientation sessions before the start of the legislative session in January.
Democrats will control both legislative chambers when the state’s legislative session convenes in January. Lawmakers will be dealing with several controversial issues, including crafting regulations for the recreational use of marijuana.
Civil unions supporters in Colorado won big during last week’s election – successfully targeting and ousting three Republican lawmakers over their opposition to civil unions. And many in the GOP feel the issue contributed to their losses.
Colorado voter turnout for this year’s election surpassed the historical level set in 2008. Counties are continuing to update final results from Tuesday’s election.
