Colorado lawmakers are coming back to the state capitol Monday for the start of a special legislative session to address civil unions. The bill was one of many that got caught in the crossfire last week and failed in the waning hours of the session.

An improving economy and a willingness to listen may have been the key factors behind passage of significant education bills by the 2012 legislature.

Governor John Hickenlooper has called for a special session regarding civil unions. The decision comes the day after Republican leaders in the house filibustered the measure even though it had enough GOP votes to pass that chamber.
