Lawmakers Open 2012 Legislative Session

State lawmakers filled the Colorado capitol on Wednesday for the first day of the annual 120 day legislative session. As in previous years, lawmakers from both political parties pledged to work together to tackle the state’s toughest challenges. But partisan battle lines are already being drawn. KUNC’s state capitol reporter Bente Birkeland has more.

 Governor John Hickenlooper told a crowd of business leaders at the state capitol Monday that the beleaguered state budget will likely be the source of the most heated debates in the upcoming legislative session.  But speaking at the Denver Metro Chamber’s annual business policy briefing, the Democrat urged lawmakers to work together to create a better environment for business growth.
