The Colorado State University-Fort Collins campus has paid more than $23,000 in fines to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violating parts of the Animal Welfare Act, a federal law that regulates the treatment of animals in research.
As Tropical Storm Emily heads toward Haiti, Colorado State University researchers are maintaining their 2011 forecast for an active hurricane season.
Bill Gray is Professor Emeritus in CSU’s Department of Atmospheric Science, and co-authored the annual seasonal forecast along with Philip Klotzbach. Overall, he expects the Atlantic to produce 16 named storms and 9 hurricanes.
“We’re looking forward to having this season to be about 175 percent of the average season between 1950 and 2000,” he said.
Colorado State University in Fort Collins is reporting 34 layoffs at the end of its 2010-2011 fiscal year. That’s much lower than the anticipated 95 faculty and 150 staff layoffs projected during springtime budget planning, according to CSU Spokesperson Brad Bohlander.
