Favorable fire conditions and a 2-inch layer of snow are helping crews gain the upper hand on at 3,498 acre fire burning in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Despite strong winds, firefighters have been able to keep the Fern Lake Fire within Rocky Mountain National Park. The blaze is now estimated at 3,477 acres with 40 percent containment.
Officials say delays and heavy wind kept two heavy air tankers from battling the Fern Lake Fire burning in Rocky Mountain National Park until Tuesday. At least for now, the planes will not be part of the efforts to control the blaze.
