Colorado is taking in more refugees as national numbers soar.

With global conflicts on the rise, refugee numbers have catapulted to more than 50 million worldwide, making the number of displaced people from conflicts the highest seen since World War II. Colorado has a larger share of refugees than most states, with the majority coming from Bhutan and Myanmar.
From 2012 to 2013, the transport of crude oil by major freight railroads spiked, increasing nearly 75 percent according to the American Association of Railroads. Even though crude oil accounted for just over 1 percent of overall 2013 traffic, there’s growing public concern about spills and other hazards.

As temperatures rise, many flock to rivers and streams to cool off. Northern Colorado safety officials are urging “extreme caution” as rivers swell from their banks with higher-than-average snowpack. In the span of two weeks, three have died in the Poudre River due to the unsafe conditions.
