Fire crews working against the High Park Fire took advantage of yesterday’s cooler temperatures and calmer winds.
The Fort Collins-Loveland Airport is playing a key role in the efforts to fight the High Park Fire. The small commuter airport located between the two cities is a landing and refueling place for single engine air tankers and helicopters. Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Jefferson County is the base for heavy air tankers.
Heavy firefighting air tankers are one of the most visible resources being used to fight the High Park Fire. The cost to fly and maintain the large aircraft is not cheap, and will continue to increase as the fire remains relatively uncontained.
