Hickenlooper Presents 2012 Budget Proposal

Lawmakers peppered Governor John Hickenlooper with economic development questions on Thursday when he presented his budget for next year. The legislature’s bi-partisan joint budget committee is charged with crafting a budget. Similar to recent years, the budget will require significant cuts to government programs. The Governor has also set aside 6 million dollars for economic incentives. KUNC’s state capitol reporter Bente Birkeland has more.

Cuts to K-12, Higher Education, Part of Governor’s Proposed 2012 Budget

Governor John Hickenlooper released his 2012 budget today. It includes further cuts to higher education and K-12 schools, although not as deep as in the current budget. It also spares state workers from additional furloughs and does not call for any prison closures.

Colorado Governor Tells Protesters to Leave Park

Outside the state capitol, the standoff between anti-Wall Street protesters and Colorado authorities has taken yet another turn.  Governor John Hickenlooper said Thursday the Occupy Denver protesters cannot continue camping in the state-owned park overnight. But it’s still unclear whether authorities will start forcefully removing protesters as early as tonight.
