Ecuador Says WikiLeaks' Julian Assange Has Asked President For Asylum

Ecuador's foreign minister says the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, has requested political asylum.

Ricardo Patiño Aroca said on his twitter account that Assange had submitted his request at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

"The Ecuadorian government is analyzing his request," said Patiño.

Wikileaks Founder Loses Bid To Stop Extradition From Britain

Julian Assange, the creator of the secret-spilling website, Wikileaks, lost his appeal to Britain's highest court to stop his impending extradition to Sweden. He's wanted there for questioning in connection with sexual assault allegations lodged by two women. He claims the sex was consensual.

WikiLeaks' Assange Has Two Weeks To Appeal Extradition Decision

While Britain's Supreme Court today said that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can be extradited to Sweden to face accusations of sex assault, he was also given two weeks to appeal that ruling.

Assange's lawyer said that she needs that time to probe whether the court's decision was based in part on matters that weren't argued during the legal proceedings.
