Beloved Children's Author Maurice Sendak Dies

Maurice Sendak, the well-known children's book author and illustrator, has died. He was 83. Sendak is widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are. Steve Inskeep has this remembrance.

Maurice Sendak, Author Of 'Where The Wild Things Are', Dies

Award-winning children's author and illustrator Maurice Sendak has died at 83. He shot to fame in 1963 with his picture book 'Where The Wild Things Are'. He published several more books, including 'In The Night Kitchen', 'Outside Over There' and most recently, 'Bumble-Ardy'.

Family friend Lynn Ceprio confirmed his death. The New York Times reports his cause of death was complications from a stroke he'd recently suffered.

A Parade, Restored: A Maurice Sendak Mural Goes From Bedroom To Gallery

It's not that unusual for kids to have murals painted on their walls.

But the mural that was painted on the wall in Larry and Nina Chertoff's childhood bedroom in Manhattan in 1961 was a little unusual. Showing a parade of children and animals, it was painted by family friend Maurice Sendak, the author and illustrator who, two years later, would publish the award-winning children's book Where The Wild Things Are.
