15 Republican Senators Call On Obama To Withdraw Chuck Hagel Nomination

Fifteen Republican senators sent a letter to President Obama asking him to withdraw the nomination of former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to be secretary of Defense.

The senators pointed to his lackluster performance during his confirmation hearing as well as what they said were his untenable positions on Iran.

Senate Votes To Continue Debate On Hagel Nomination

A cloture vote on the nomination of former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel for defense secretary failed in the Senate, today.

That means Senate Republicans succeeded — with a vote of 58 to 40 — in keeping the Hagel nomination from coming before a final vote. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid scheduled the cloture vote after Republicans refused to give unanimous consent to proceed with the final vote.

At Fort Carson, Wait for Same-Sex Partner Benefits Could Take 8 Months

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced on Monday that the military will extend some benefits to same-sex partners. But the list of 22 items could take as long as eight months to implement at bases across the country, including Fort Carson Army Post south of Colorado Springs.
