Management of the High Park Fire burning west of Fort Collins has been turned over to a federal Type 1 team today. KUNC’s Erin O’Toole spoke to KUNC’s Kirk Siegler about what that means for fighting the 37,000 acre blaze.

Despite two recent air tanker crashes in Utah and Nevada, and multiple large fires across the country including the now 8,000+ acre High Park Fire northwest of Ft. Collins, the US Forest Service says it remains fully capable of fighting multiple fires from the air.

Saturday marks the 5th annual National Get Outdoors day, and admission to National Parks across the country and in Colorado will be free.
