Judging The New 'Idol' Judges

I sat down this afternoon for a quick chat with Jasmine Garsd of NPR Music (the co-host of Alt Latino) and Andrew Wallenstein (a frequent NPR contributor on all things entertainment and a senior editor at Paid Content), which airs this afternoon on All Things Considered. Naturally, we talked about the new judges on American Idol, because if you cover music or Hollywood, you have to take your lumps, and today's lumps are shaped like Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

We considered the contestants who wouldn't have made it if Simon were still there, the problem of too many identical voices, and what the beginning of the new American Idol season has to do with flu season.

As I said yesterday, there's not enough oomph in this judging panel yet, but there's plenty in this little discussion, so give it a listen before you check out tonight's installment of the Idol auditions.
